Athlete Diaries from the London Marathon Camp

Athlete Diaries from the London Marathon Camp
Eighty junior athletes from across the UK have been selected by UK Athletics to attend a five day endurance camp between 10 and 14 July at St. Mary's College,Twickenham.

Blue Haywood (Lincoln Wellington) took bronze in the Inter Girls 3,000m at the English Schools Championships in Gateshead and Bea Swords (Oxford City AC) ran in the Junior Girls 800m, where she made it through to the final, only to be tripped with 120m to go in the race.

Blue gives an extract from her diary on Tuesday 11 July:

"The track session was the best part of the day for me, I was quite nervous beforehand as there were so many athletes training together. The session went really well, it was hard though.

"Overall, I have already learned a lot about how hard you need to train to reach the top. This is a brilliant place to train, the campus is beautiful."

Bea summarised her most enjoyable session involving international athletes, Ben Limo and Boniface Kiprop:

"The forum with the international athletes was really interesting. They train so hard and the amount of training they do is much more than I imagined.

"The Kenyan athletes seem to be more disciplined than some British athletes, their whole lifestyle is based around training and recovery. It made me realise that to be the best in the world, you need to be completely devoted to athletics and be 100% committed."

Athlete diaries will folllow after each day of the London Marathon Endurance Camp.
